Frameless vs Framed Lightweight Solar Modules: How to Select for Roof Projects

One 560W platform, two roof solutions

X-SOLAR XSFM-560-T2 is a 560W N-TOPCon lightweight solar module platform offered in two configurations: a frameless flexible module and a framed lightweight module. The right choice starts with roof geometry, load constraints and mounting approach.

1. Start with roof geometry and structural constraints

For suitable curved or load-constrained roofs, the frameless flexible configuration provides a lower area weight of 3.1 kg/m². For suitable flat or low-slope roof projects using conventional mounting formats, the framed lightweight configuration offers a familiar rail-and-clamp approach at 4.8 kg/m².

2. Frameless flexible configuration

The frameless 560W module measures 2260 × 1200 × 2.7 mm and weighs 8.4 kg. Its minimum bending radius is 0.5 m. It may bend during installation to fit a suitable curved roof, but it is not designed for repeated or cyclic bending because that may cause solar-cell microcracks.

Final installation should follow project-specific requirements for roof substrate, structural loading, wind, drainage, waterproofing and local codes.

3. Framed lightweight configuration

The framed 560W module measures 2260 × 1245 × 25 mm and weighs 13.5 kg. It is intended for suitable flat or low-slope roof projects and conventional mounting formats, using rails with single clamps and double clamps.

4. Core electrical and durability data

  • Rated power: 560W
  • Module efficiency: 23.5%
  • Vmp / Imp: 43.18 V / 12.97 A
  • Voc / Isc: 52.58 V / 13.69 A
  • Mechanical load: 5400 / 2400 Pa
  • Protection: IP68, Class II
  • Operating temperature: -40°C to +85°C

5. A practical selection checklist

  1. Confirm roof geometry, substrate condition and allowable loading.
  2. Choose frameless flexible for a suitable curved or low-load roof, or framed lightweight for suitable conventional mounting conditions.
  3. Complete a project-specific structural and waterproofing review before installation.
  4. Use the relevant installation method and verify local-code compliance.
