What Roof Survey Photos Should a Flexible PV Supplier Receive

A useful photo set connects every close-up to a marked roof plan. Send overall views, roof build-up and condition details, obstructions, drainage and accessible fixing interfaces. Photos help a flexible PV supplier identify questions; they do not establish roof capacity, material compatibility or permission to install. Record the survey date and what could not be inspected.

Practical review checklist

· Create a location key. Number roof zones on a plan and use the same identifiers in filenames. Include orientation and the camera viewpoint so another reviewer can place each detail.

· Show the existing condition. Photograph seams, laps, coatings, visible corrosion, previous repairs and any observed ponding. Describe observations without diagnosing hidden layers from appearance.

· Capture the interfaces. Show skylights, vents, roof edges, drains, cable entries and existing equipment. Record approximate context for discussion, but obtain checked dimensions before layout decisions.

· Record access limits. Identify areas seen only from the ground or through records. Use competent survey personnel and an agreed safe access plan; do not climb onto an unassessed roof to complete the file set.

When to request clarification

Request a follow-up survey when photographs and drawings disagree, the substrate is unidentified or critical interfaces are hidden. Treat the proposal as conditional until the missing evidence is supplied. A clear photo cannot replace a roof section or written installation limits.

Questions buyers ask

Can aerial images replace close-ups? They are useful for overall context, but may not show coatings, seams or condition adequately.

Should photos include measurements? Include a reliable reference where safely obtainable, and distinguish checked dimensions from estimates.

Information to send with an enquiry

Send a dated, indexed photo folder; the corresponding roof plan; known roof material and repair history; the proposed module model; and the specific questions requiring a supplier or engineer response. Remove unrelated personal or security-sensitive details.
